Throughout 2012, you’ll also be able to join me on a photography workshop at London or Whipsnade Zoos. These day-long photography courses are designed to help you become a better wildlife photographer – or take the first steps towards becoming one in the first place.
In these classes, we’ll meet in the zoo’s classroom for a quick presentation about the fundamentals of photography – the stuff you absolutely have to know to stand a chance. This is a chance to go through what makes some of my successful images work and how I took them. For those recovering from an early start (including me), the good folks at ZSL are supplying coffee and possibly even biscuits.
After an hour or so, we’ll get out into the zoo, where we’ll time things to make sure we get to each enclosure at the best time to get some great behavioural shots of the animals. I’ll be on hand to offer advice in the event that you can’t get the shot you want, and I’ll be happy to jump in if you can’t get your camera to behave.
The zoo will offer us a lovely feed of our own at lunchtime, and from there we’ll be straight back out photographing, until we either run out of light or energy. In total the courses run from 9am to about 4pm.
These days sell out extremely quickly, so to book yourself a place – or buy one for someone else – head here to sort out a booking. I’m running the beginner and intermediate workshops. I’ll see you there!
Books
My book, A Pocket Guide to Digital Photography, is out now. In it, I cover everything from mastering the technical side of your photography, to getting the most out of your subject, whatever you’re shooting. It’s packed with lovely pics, plus detailed information on how each one was taken. It’s the perfect size for popping into your camera bag, and you can nab one here, or in your favourite branch of WH Smiths.
